Chapter 8 — Marketing (Marketing)

In this chapter: discounts and coupons, managing customer reviews, sales merchandising, and the complete email newsletter system.

8-1. Discounts and coupons (Katalog & Warenkorb)

There are two types of discount:

  • Catalogue discount: applied to the products' own price (for example 20% off all shoes) and shown on the price on the site/at the point of sale.
  • Basket discount: applied to the basket at checkout (for example "10 euros off for purchases over 100 euros") and can have a coupon code.

Creating a discount

  1. Set the type (catalogue or basket), the name and the amount/percentage.
  2. Conditions: minimum basket total, minimum quantity, limited to specific categories or products.
  3. For a basket discount: a coupon code (if needed) and a cap on the number of uses.
  4. Validity range (from/to) and priority relative to other discounts.
  5. With the preview, see the discount's effect before activating it.

An active discount is applied automatically on the site and at the point of sale.

8-2. Customer reviews (Bewertungsmoderation)

  • Reviews left on products first come into this queue.
  • Approve each review (display it on the site) or reject it.

8-3. Merchandising (Merchandising)

  • Rules for the display and priority of products in the site's lists (for example "high-margin items first") — create/edit a rule and where it applies.

8-4. Analytics exports (Analytics Exports)

  • Create and download marketing analytics reports for review in Excel or other tools.

8-5. Newsletter (Newsletter)

The complete email marketing system. Its components, in setup order:

  1. Provider connection (Anbieterverbindung): connect your email-sending service account.
  2. Subscribers (Abonnent): the list of recipients — create them manually or bulk import from a file. (Sign-ups from the site's newsletter form also come here.)
  3. Segments (Segment) and audiences (Zielgruppe): group subscribers by characteristics so that each message reaches the right group; the details page shows the reachable count of each group.
  4. Templates (Vorlage): design the email templates.
  5. Campaign (Kampagne): create a message, choose the audience and template, and send — or copy a previous campaign to send a similar one.
  • Scheduling the send: instead of sending immediately, set the date and time of the send.
  • Test send and preview: before the real send, send a test copy to yourself and view a preview of the message.
  1. Automatic events (Ereignis): event-based automatic sends (for example a welcome after sign-up).

Monitoring sends

  • Deliveries (Zustellung): the status of each individual sent email and its delivery stages.
  • Block list (Sperrliste): recipients who should never receive email (unsubscribes, broken addresses).
  • Event log (Ereignisprotokoll): the complete stream of newsletter system events for tracking down problems.
  • Overview (Übersicht): a summary dashboard of the newsletter's performance.
⚠️ Take email law (GDPR) seriously: only send to those who have consented, and the unsubscribe link must always work — the block list is honoured automatically.
